Evaluating risks is a difficult process for many companies in the market. Trying to find future trends in risks is even harder. Aon's latest risk report for 2005, entitled 'Illusions or Realities?', looks at a wide range of issues to assess just what's out there to cause sleepless nights for the (re)insurance industry.

One of the first, and most pressing areas, of the report is that of compensation culture. According to the report, while individual cases must always be examined on their merits, it would be safe to say that recent growth in compensation claims and payouts is not due to an overall increase in accidents.
