Help with health insurance

Now you can get a tax deduction for contributing to one of the new Health Savings Accounts. These accounts work for people with a health insurance policy that carries a high deductible. You have to pay anywhere from $2,000 to $10,000 toward your family's annual medical bills before your coverage kicks in. But you can contribute to a tax-free savings account for the purpose of paying those out-of-pocket costs.

Contributions are tax deductible up to $5,150 for families (plus $500 for each taxpayer who's 55 or older) or up to $2,600 for singles (plus $500 for someone 55 or older). You can still make deductible contributions for 2004; the books don't close until April 15.
