Railion, the freight subsidiary of German state railway operator Deutsche Bahn, is planning to slim down its cost-intensive shunting activities in Germany. The company plans to simplify the transporting of individual wagons, its largest area of activity with turnover of 1.3bn euros, by the creation of a new network of junctions. Wagons and small groups of wagons will be assembled to form trains at specific freight depots.
