SHE CAME to the police yesterday morning to report that her husband had been abducted from their house by gunmen.

In the afternoon, police clarified matters.

No, Maria Theresa Gumabao's husband, was not kidnapped.

The husband, Mitchell Gumabao-also popularly known by his movie name of Dennis Roldan and a former member of Congress-had, in fact, been arrested on suspicion of involvement with a kidnap-for-ransom gang.

The gunmen who broke into Gumabao's house were not robbers or kidnappers but actually government agents, police said.
