(BNamericas.com) - Quebec-based gold miner Cambior recorded a net loss of US$73.8mn in 2004 despite record gold production of 694,100oz, the company announced.

This compares to net earnings of US$800,000 in 2003. Cambior said that the opening of its new Rosebel mine in Suriname helped it achieve record production but this was undermined by ground stability problems and increased costs at its existing Doyon mine in Quebec.

ROSEBEL Rosebel is now Cambior "most important gold producing asset" after construction and development of the mine was completed on time and budget in February 2004,…
