ST. PETERSBURG -- The most popular player on the first day of spring training for the Tampa Bay Devil Rays isn't even on the 40-man roster.
He didn't wear a number in the 70s, 80s or 90s, so he kind of blended in.
Except for the large Japanese media horde that followed his every move.
Hideo Nomo played the role of the Pied Piper on Friday at the Raymond J. Naimoli Complex, where the Rays opened practice for pitchers and catchers.
About 30 members of the Japanese media documented Nomo's every move with video and still cameras.
