Tokyo, Feb. 18 (Jiji Press)--Tokyo Gas Co. said Friday it has inked a 24-year contract to buy an annual 1.1 million tons of liquefied natural gas from an international petroleum project off Sakhalin Island in the Russian Far East.

The deal, signed with Sakhalin Energy Investment Co., takes effect in April 2007.

The purchase is expected to account for 11-12 pct of Tokyo Gas's entire gas procurement once the supply starts in 2007.
