We are gradually being moulded into a state of mind to believe that if one or two individuals suffer the loss of their liberty or property to the benefit of the state, it does not matter - Dr J.B. Danquah.
The quotation above by one of Ghana's illustrious sons expresses a deeply held belief in the freedom of the individual as opposed to state control. Indeed, Dr J.B. Danquah was such a firm believer in the twin ideals of freedom and justice that in his fight to preserve them for the benefit of Ghanaians, he laid down his life.
In a speech marking the 40th anniversary of the death of Dr Danquah in detention during the regime of Dr Kwame Nkrumah, President J.A. Kufuor stated that the country was currently bringing to function the vision and ideals of Dr J.B. Danquah.
