Big-screen suitors may be winning over more TV buyers, but the tubby and dependable picture-tube TV is still a sensible, if somewhat stodgy, choice for many buyers. These sets offer great performance and proven reliability at a comparatively low price.
Not that the tube TV isn't undergoing an evolution of its own. A growing number of picture-tube TVs with 26- to 36-inch screens are high-definition sets, many of them with wide screens rather than the usual squarish ones.
