HAVING RECEIVED royal assent, the Work and Families Act allows working parents more maternity and paternity rights.

Under the new law, mothers will receive nine months' statutory pay while fathers will benefit from extended paternity leave. The government estimates that about 400,000 mothers per years will benefit from this along with about 250,000 fathers.
