SYDNEY, Oct 2 Asia Pulse - The Australian stock market has opened higher, despite public holidays in three states, as strengthening commodities shrugged off a bad US lead.
At 1015 AEST, the benchmark S&P/ASX200 index was up 21.7 points to 5,178.8 and the all ordinaries gained 23.3 points to 5,136.3.
On the Sydney Futures Exchange, the December share price index contract lifted 12 points to 5,192 on a volume of 4,727 contracts.
ABN Amro Morgans Ipswich manager Tony Russell said the local bourse had been boosted by higher commodity prices and was continuing the forward momentum of last week.
