SEOUL, Oct. 2 Asia Pulse - The number of domestic cows raised in South Korea for meat increased sharply this year, hitting a seven-year high, on the back of rising demand for local premium beef, a report showed Sunday.
As of September, there were 2.02 million head of "hanwoo" cattle in the country, up 62,000 or 3.2 per cent from three months earlier, according to the report compiled by the National Agricultural Products Quality Management Service.
The figure is nearly 37 per cent higher than that of December 2003, when the country banned imports of U.S. beef, and is the largest since September 1999 when the corresponding figure ...
