Two-thirds of community college students supported themselves during the 1999-2000 school year. And, students without family financial support not surprisingly tended to favor the cheapest form of education, public two-year schools. Fifty-six percent of these students chose that route in 1999-2000, according to a report from the National Center for Education Statistics.
