LONDON (AFX) - Britvic PLC stressed that it has not been contacted by any potential bidders, following speculation this weekend that private equity house Permira is set to table a 600 mln stg bid for the soft drinks group.
In unsourced reports the Sunday Times and Sunday Telegraph both claimed that Permira will unveil the approach tomorrow. The finance group could not be reached for comment.
"The board understands its fiduciary duty to its shareholders and will consider any serious offer for the company. At present we have had no contact from anyone regarding an offer," a spokesman for Britvic told AFX News on Sunday.
The reports follow months of speculation that the soft drinks company, one of Britain's largest, was being circled by predators.
Since floating last December the company's share price has struggled to stay above the initial 230 pence offer price, amid a series of lacklustre trading statements.
