TOKYO (XFN-ASIA) - A strong earthquake with a magnitude of 6.8 on the Richter scale struck waters close to the border between Japan and Russia, but there was no threat of a tsunami, the Japan Meteorological Agency said.
The quake, which hit at about 2.50 am Japan standard time (1750 GMT), shook the sea close to the Kuril Islands, which are part of Russian territory, the Agency said.
