Legge & Braine began innocently enough five years ago, when Kate Braine moved next door to Charlotte Legge in London's Chelsea neighborhood and their two young sons, Vladimir and Tancredi, respectively, became fast friends. The moms became constant companions, too, and soon had linked their surnames and headquartered a unique design operation within their twin town houses. The first joint venture was a bronze table cast from the kneeling silhouette of Kate, a sculptress and onetime Vivienne Westwood model. "We wanted to create exquisite objects. Not necessarily jewelry initially, but that became a means of creating art from an unusual point of view: pieces that are small and affordable," says Charlotte of their foray from furniture into witty rings, necklaces, and bracelets.
