The Camry routinely ranks as the best-selling car in the U.S., where about 400,000 are sold annually. Previous generations of the Camry consistently performed well in our tests. We're testing the 2007 Camry in three versions: the LE, XLE V6, and Hybrid. Here are our first impressions of the LE:
The four-cylinder version's engine is a carryover from '06. The 158-hp, 2.4-liter engine provides adequate power and sounds fairly pleasant compared with most fours. The well-mannered engine isolates idling vibration. The five-speed automatic is smooth and quite responsive. Handling is sound, though not exciting. The steering is fairly light but responsive. The car absorbs bumps nicely and remains steady.
