NEW DELHI: There seems to be a concerted attempt by friends and foes alike to bind down the Bihar goliath Lalu Prasad in what looks like the toughest electoral battle he has ever joined. His partners in the UPA as well as his rivals in the NDA appear keen to ensure one thing: curtains on the Lalu hegemony in the state.

There are, of course, differences of degrees in the attempt. Lalu's arch rivals in the NDA would naturally go to great lengths to see his back, and so would his friend-turned-foe-turned-friend-turned-foe Ram Vilas Paswan. Congress, in contrast, wants to see him hobbled so that he is forced …
