After quarterback Drew Brees threw for 8 yards in the first half in Week 2 and 16 in the first half in Week 3, Chargers coach Marty Schottenheimer promoted prize rookie Philip Rivers to second string. If Schottenheimer's intention was to motivate Brees to play better, it worked. The fourth-year pro has been on the hottest streak of his career since, throwing for 840 yards and six touchdowns with only one turnover during the team's 3-1 run. He has been quicker and more decisive with his reads and throws. The Chargers (4-3) have averaged 27.2 points in that four-game stretch.
