I'm an analyst on FOX, so it's my job to break down player performances. I study tons of film, looking for every little nuance or tendency that might explain why a player, unit or team has been producing or struggling.
But when it comes to Michael Vick, I refuse. Oh, I've watched as much film of him as I have of anybody. My gosh, it's one of the most enjoyable things I've done all year. But I will not overanalyze the guy. It's pointless.
With anybody else, I'd break down his footwork, ability to read defenses, arm strength, accuracy, fit within the offense--the whole nine yards. But with Vick, I throw all of that out the window.
Vick is a phenomenal athlete and a great quarterback. Period. Does he drop back, hit his third step, his fifth step, go through his reads, find this receiver or that receiver? Does the West Coast offense make him better? My response: Who cares? All he does is play quarterback at an extremely high level and win football games. The Falcons are in the NFC championship game one year after being 5-11, and it's mainly because of Vick.
Teams can't defend against him. He can throw the football as well as anybody. And he's the best runner on a team with two former ...
