Marty Schottenheimer was named the AP's NFL coach of the year. There's no designation for assistant coach of the year, but if there were, it would go to the guy who works two doors down from Schottenheimer.

That would be Hudson Houck, the Chargers' offensive line coach. All he did was take five strangers and mold them into a cohesive unit on a team that went 12-4 and returned to the playoffs for the first time in nine years. The Chargers blew up last year's line, which was wracked by injuries and inferior play.
