Excellence was defined Sunday night as super stars on the nation's political and economic horizon shone brightly at Eko Hotel, venue of THISDAY Awards which had attracted unprecedented attention within and without the shores of the country.

Vice President Atiku Abubakar in his opening remarks delievered on his behalf by Lagos State Governor, Bola Tinubu expressed delight on the institution of the awards which he said complimented the Obasanjo administration's building of a foundation for a great Nigeria.

Atiku said "in the last five years, we have been laying the foundation for a great Nigeria, the Nigeria of our dreams, a Nigeria of which we can be proud, a Nigeria that will truly lead Africa and the Black race. The recognition of that effort here at these awards is one more vindication of the correctness of our position."
