SARASOTA -- What Seymour Hersh wants to know is how, in a democratically governed society, did eight or nine people get control?
The conclusion of his book, "Chain of Command: The Road from 9/11 to Abu Ghraib" (Harper Collins, $25.95) reads:
"There is so much about this presidency that we don't know, and may never learn. Some of the most important questions are not even being asked. How did they do it? ... How did they overcome the bureaucracy, intimidate the press, mislead the Congress, and dominate the military? Is our democracy that fragile?"
