CANBERRA, Feb 4 Asia Pulse - Telstra's (ASX:TLS) main competitor Optus could suffer if Telstra was made to sell its shareholding in pay TV group Foxtel, Communications Minister Helen Coonan said today.

The Europe-based OECD has called for Telstra to be forced to sell its 50 per cent shareholding in Foxtel to help improve competition in the sector.

While Telstra has already rejected the call, Senator Coonan today stepped up the government's opposition to the move.

She said the OECD had not provided any evidence that the benefits of the government forcing Telstra to sell out of Foxtel would outweigh the disadvantages. …
