PRAGUE, Jan 13 (CTK) - The Constitutional Court today ruled in favour of the National Heritage Institute in the case concerning the Opocno chateau in east Bohemia.

The decision could return the chateau, which has been fought over by the state and the Colloredo-Mansfeld noble family for ten years, into the hands of the state.

Today's decision overturned a decision by the Supreme Court last year which ruled that there was no reason why Kristina Colloredo-Mansfeld should not be the owner of the chateau on the basis of restitution laws.

Kristina Colloredo-Mansfeld requested the return of the property, owned up to 1945 by her father Josef Colloredo- Mansfeld, shortly after 1989. At first she was unsuccessful, but a district court ruling in 2002 returned the chateau to her.

The district court had ruled against Kristina Colloredo- Mansfeld in 1995 and this decision was confirmed by the regional court, before being overturned by the Supreme Court five years and then the case began anew.

In 2002, the district court ruled that Josef Colloredo- Mansfeld did not lose Czechoslovak citizenship during World War Two and therefore the confiscation of the chateau after the war was not legal. A regional court confirmed this verdict a year later.
