A MILITANT group asked former Senate President Jovito Salonga to initiate the move to impeach President Macapagal-Arroyo, after he said that she was impeachable for obstructing justice in the plunder case against deposed President Joseph Estrada.
"We hope to see ex-Senator Salonga leading an impeachment case against Ms Arroyo for violating the rule of law in allowing Estrada to undergo (knee surgery) in Hong Kong," Fernando Hicap, Pamalakaya national chair, said yesterday.
Salonga also said that Ms Arroyo would do anything to remain in power, including bowing to the popular Estrada's wishes to buy peace for herself.
But he declined calls to lead a movement to impeach Ms Arroyo.
"My hearing is impaired. My sight is impaired, and I am just too old to lead any movement," the 84-year-old Salonga said yesterday.
