After more than a dozen incidents involving overheated motors, some 30,500 Black Cat brand electric power washers have been recalled because of their potential to melt, catch fire, and expose live electrical components that could shock anyone who comes in contact with them.
The washers, about $145, were sold at Target stores nationwide and at Menards stores in the Midwest between March and September 2002. The recall involves Black Cat models TW1800 and BC2200. The units have black plastic housings and the "BLACK CAT" name on both sides. The model number and "MCM International" also appear on a silver label affixed to the washer. The units were made by Shanghai MeiHao Electric of China and distributed by RMM of Eden Prairie, Minn. RMM succeeded MCM International as the distributor of Black Cat washers sold at Target and Menards. There have been no injuries ...
