ROTHERHAM might scrap its 24-hour eye in the sky despite fears of the town centre being shunned by shoppers because of drunks, drug addicts and hooligans.

Rotherham Council is considering doing away with its round-the-clock town centre CCTV camera coverage to save money.

The move comes after a secret council report revealed the department which runs the CCTV overspent by thousands of pounds on staffing.

The department spent GBP128,000 on staffing costs last year - well above its GBP113,000 budget.
