Female athletes deserve more post-season playing opportunities, a group of college coaches, ADs and conference commissioners recently told the NCAA.
During the 2004-2005 school year, about 1,000 more male athletes than female athletes participated in post-season competition. Those numbers do not even include football bowl games, which would add some 6,000 more male players and leave women with almost 25% fewer post-season playing opportunities.
"There's a glaring inequity that exists in the NCAA championships program," said Jean Lenti Ponsetto, AD at DePaul University IL and former chair of NCAA championships.
