In an interesting turn of events, an Ohio Court of Claims judge ruled that Ohio State University must pay former basketball coach Jim O'Brien more than $2 million for firing him for breaking NCAA rules by giving $6,000 to a recruit.
Ohio State fired O'Brien in June 2004 after he revealed to then-AD Andy Geiger that he had given money to a Serbian basketball prospect four years earlier. After an investigation, the NCAA threw the book at Ohio State, vacating its trip to the Final Four and putting it on three years probation for this and other violations.
