The Liability Underwriters Group, which launched in July, may be new to the International Underwriting Association's stable but it has been around for longer than many may believe.
There was a degree of pomp and fanfare over the summer as the IUA announced the group had been established with the aim of promoting knowledge and expertise in the sector. Indeed, the attention this created perhaps best describes one of the major incentives for the move.
There has been a separate and independent LUG within the London Market for well over 20 years, and it has worked well in its time. However, those involved felt a union with the IUA would help both parties.
