ACQUISITION is the buzz word that has kept Speedy Hire romping ahead in the tool hire industry.
Since it was founded in Wigan in 1977 by current chief executive John Brown, Speedy has bought up no fewer that 21 companies - a strategy that has secured it a place in the FTSE 250 this year. This year alone, the tool and equipment hire giant has spent close to GBP73m on two businesses - Caledonian Jatemaker and LCH - to strengthen its specialist divisions and boost turnover.
