* In the November election, George W. Bush became the first Presidential candidate since 1988 to receive a majority of the popular vote.

* The nearly 59 million votes Bush earned are an all-time record.

* The percentage of the total vote won by George W. Bush (51.1 percent) was slightly higher than the average winning total (50.8) for all Presidents elected between 1968 and 2000.
