Abstract

Little is known about how freshman composition students experience using teachers' written responses to revise their essays. If writing textbooks are to be believed, students have little difficulty making use of teacher feedback. This study describes the experiences of three students and their teacher and the challenges they encountered due to conflicting conceptions of what written response is and what revision entails.
