BY DAVID MARSH SERVICES for older people in Leeds have been praised by Government inspectors.
They found that the council, health organisations and other agencies were meeting the challenge of providing better services for an ageing population.
Pensioners were consulted through groups such as the Older People's Forum and provided with the support needed to allow them to stay in their own homes.
The reviewers emphasised the urgent need to modernise mental health services for older people and their carers, including the development of a wider range of primary care and community care provision.
Council bosses say this work is already underway. Plans have been announced to develop a further four homes for older people as modern "extra care housing" schemes.
