WARTIME WIDOW FINALLY LEARNS THE TRUTH OF AIRMAN'S 'FRIENDLY FIRE' DEATH BY SOPHIE HAZAN JUST one month after getting married, Jessie Ingle was widowed.
Her young life was left in tatters.
It was November 27, 1944, and her 23-year-old husband Flight Sergeant Thomas Dennis Ingle, from Roundhay, Leeds, had been killed during a night-time bombing mission over Freiburg, Germany.
He was aboard the only Lancaster bomber, out of thousands, never to return from that fateful air raid.
Jessie, now aged 82 and living in Bardsey, was also certain she would never know what exactly happened to her husband, known then by his initials TDI.
That was until she picked up a copy of the YEP...sixty years later.
