(From Yorkshire Post)
Robert Benson Agricultural Correspondent A FARMING business based in North Yorkshire, which employs more than 50 people, is the winner of the Crown Estate Farm Of The Year Award.
Brothers, David and Richard Lister, along with their mother, Madge, farm a total of 6,800 acres on 12 farms incorporating a mix of rented, owned and contract farming arrangements.
All 600 of the Crown Estate's farm business tenants nationally were eligible for the award and it is Ellenthorpe Lodge Farm, the family's base, at Boroughbridge, that has taken the spotlight.
It was entered by the York office of land agents, Carter Jonas, who manage the Crown Estate.
The competition is held to showcase the achievement of the farm that best balances the needs of competitive business management with environmental responsibility and social contribution to the local economy.
The tenancy of Ellenthorpe Lodge Farm was taken in 1957. At that time it totalled 341 acres but has since increased to 488 acres and forms an integral part of the entire farming business.
