RPAGUE, Jan 1 (CTK) - Prime Minister Stanislav Gross (senior government Social Democrats, CSSD) said today he would like to push through by the regular election in mid-2006 the reforms of health care and pensions which have been prepared for many years.
His effort however will probably run into objections of the opposition Civic Democrats (ODS) whose chairman Mirek Topolanek said today that consensus is out of sight and that present Health Minister Milada Emmerova (CSSD) stands in the way of the health care reform.
Gross and Topolanek, who is generally expected to become new prime minister after the 2006 elections, took part in a discussion programme of the Nova commercial television channel.
"I would like within this election term to submit and if possible to push through a pension reform concept," Gross said and added that a government-formed working group has already completed the pension reform concept.
Gross said that he would not like the pension reform to be only a matter for the 101 votes which the coalition government has in the 200-seat Chamber of Deputies, indicating that he would like the reform to be supported across political parties.
He said that politicians should now discuss the prepared variants and seek political agreement.
