PRAGUE, Jan 1 (CTK) - The Czech Republic should harmonise its humanitarian aid to southeast Asia, afflicted by an earthquake and consequent devastating tsunamis on December 26, with the EU activities, Prime Minister Stanislav Gross said today.
That is why he had convoked an extraordinary meeting of the government on January 4, two days ahead of the European Council's meeting in Brussels to deal with the aid.
Gross told CTK that the Czech Republic will also take an active part in the reconstruction of the devastated territories.
He said the Czech Republic will be definitely ready to earmark more than 100 million crowns for this purpose "unless it shows that the overall attitude of the European Union is different," he said.
Gross said the government will on January 4 approve a mandate of a Czech representative to the European Council meeting.
He said he can see no problem about Czech aid, adding that it is more difficult to take the aid to those who really need it.
