Budapest, January 1 (MTI) - President Ferenc Madl reviewed the achievements of 2004 and warned about challenges of the coming year in his New Year's Address to the nation broadcast over public radio and television at midnight.
In his assessment, the president said the year 2004 had yielded rich crops in return for the strenuous efforts of those working the fields, and more children were provided with well-heated homes than before.
The year brought about an important turning point in national history, Hungary entered the European Union. "After devastating storms threatening disaster the ship we sail in reached harbour at the western coast. This was an event the results of which cannot be appreciated in the near future.
