A GLOBAL search is on for a director to head Singapore's inaugural visual arts biennale, the Singapore Biennale 2006. The idea is to enhance Singapore's presence in the regional and international arts scene as a centre for contemporary art and it's being organised by the National Arts Council and the National Heritage Board of Singapore. I mention it because Australians have been key players in a number of Singapore's giant arts ventures in the past few years, so why not a Canberran? The position of artistic director is open to candidates of any nationality, with the requisite experience in cultural project planning and management as well as in research and publication. Candidates need to submit a two- page response to the biennale concept in the form of a conceptual, curatorial and/or programming framework, in addition to a resume of their relevant experience. The closing date is January 24 and short-listed candidates will be invited to Singapore for further discussions in February.
