THE ONGOING Metro Manila Film Festival is unique because, for the first time in the filmfest's long history, it's showcasing three movies directed by one director, Joel Lamangan.
Clearly, this is a feather in Lamangan's cap, because it shows that many producers trust him to come up with good films that make money at the tills.
It's an even bigger accomplishment when seen in the context of the movie industry's current woes. Many directors have not gotten movie offers in a long time, so for Lamangan to be entrusted with three productions for one filmfest is a truly exceptional achievement.
Controversy
On the other hand, Lamangan's feat has been affected by controversy over the unresolved question regarding the producer(s) of his three films.
