(From Philippine Daily Inquirer)
Byline: Nestor U. Torre
2004 was one of the most eventful years Philippine television has ever experienced. Some highlights, for good and bad:
It was the year when the Battle of the TV Networks came to a head, with both Channel 2 and Channel 7 giving it everything they had, in their bid for the top slot.
That used to belong exclusively to Channel 2, but Channel 7 was able to make some significant inroads this past year, and the dust from that violent war has yet to clear.
Significantly, Channel 7 challenged 2's heretofore impregnable "Maala-ala Mo Kaya," Charo Santos-Concio's drama anthology series, with its own "Magpakailanman," and vanquished it occasionally. Channel 7's show also forced "Maala-ala" to match its thrust of often basing its dramas on the lives and travails of celebrities.
