INTERNATIONAL Master Joseph Sanchez yesterday finished tied for first in the 20th International Nice Open Chess Tournament at the Le Grand Hotel Aston in Nice, France.

But the 34-year-old Filipino settled for second place behind top seeded Russian GM Vladimir Epishin (ELO 2599), who clobbered Julien Lamorelle of France.
