PRESIDENT Macapagal-Arroyo's meeting with top sports officials has been reset to Jan. 4, still in Malaca[currency]ang, with the Chief Executive expected to give blessings to the 2005 Southeast Asian Games budget, induct the new officers of the Philippine Olympic Committee and- hopefully-name the new Philippine Sports Commission chair.
Originally slated Jan. 2, the President will meet the sports officials, particularly the Philippine SEAG Organizing Committee officials, for the first time since she accepted the hosting of the 23rd SEAG last year.
But what's being keenly awaited is the announcement of the new PSC chair replacing Eric Buhain who was transferred to the Games and Amusement Board, the professional sports' regulatory arm.
Rumors are rife that Malaca[currency]ang has another short list of candidates for the PSC chair, who will manage the disbursement of funds to national athletes from the P500 million it regularly receives annually from the Congress and the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp., among others.
