THANKS to all the readers who have written in or called to support our move to convince government and film industry leaders to put up the country's first state-of-the-art film archive, and to name it after pioneering film conservationist Fernando Poe Jr. Let's make this our big project for 2005. It's very important, because it will help solve the huge, decades-long problem of our deteriorating cinematic legacy.
This is a major loss, because succeeding generations will be deprived of the richness of much of our cumulative film culture.
To some people, that's no big deal. But, for others who understand how the popular film medium shapes us, the loss of "touchstone" films is a major problem.

Thus, the crucial need for a professionally-run film archive that will preserve and restore the best movies the Filipino film industry has produced since the turn of the last century.
