IT WAS probably the bleakest day of their lives.
But victims of a recent fire in Mandaluyong City would like to forget, at least momentarily, that unfortunate day when a big fire ate up their homes, and look forward to the New Year with their stomachs full and with something more than loose change in their pockets.
Mayor Neptali "Boyet" Gonzales II distributed on Thursday afternoon some P1.5 million in cash to 400 families of Barangka Drive whose houses were ravaged by a fire last Sunday.
"At least they can have a little something to start the New Year with," Gonzales told the Inquirer.
Each "structure owner" received P7,000, the "renter," P3,000 and the "sharer," P2,000. A bag of groceries and kitchen utensils worth around P800 were also distributed to each family, Gonzales said.
