SHE HADN'T wanted to spend her Christmas in Phuket but, in the end, she yielded to the wishes of her Japanese husband.
That was what Esmine Tomenio-Azul said yesterday after confirmation came that the body of a woman found inside a wrecked vehicle near the Thai beach swamped by tsunamis was that of her sister, Ivy Catherine Tomenio-Terasaka.
Ivy Catherine, 32, an alumna of the University of the Philippines, and Estelita C. Sales, 57, an employee of the Hotel Sofitel in Khaolak, Phangnga, were among at least three Filipinos confirmed to have been killed in the catastrophe, officials of the Department of Foreign Affairs said.
Twenty other Filipinos remained missing while 27 survived.
Among those missing were Ivy's Japanese husband Masahiro Terasaka, 39; sons Mahito, 9, and Yukihito, 6, and daughter Mayumi, 3 months old.
