(From Philippine Daily Inquirer)
BEGINNING next school year, public schools would be required to hold two class shifts a day to cope with the worsening classroom shortage.
This means morning and afternoon classes in all public elementary and high schools.
At present, schools usually only hold classes in the morning.
But some schools have already resorted to two class shifts, even up to four shifts, to accommodate the ever-increasing number of students.
Education Secretary Florencio Abad announced that the two class shifts would be the new policy beginning June next year, since not enough new classrooms could be built by that time to keep pace with enrollment.
The Department of Education estimates it is short of 57,000 classrooms.
