The City of Portland Bureau of Housing and Development has entered into a new partnership with Bowman Systems to market and license Housing Connections (www.housingconnections.org), an innovative housing locator service connecting people with affordable, accessible, and special needs housing in the Portland Metropolitan Area. Housing Connections was developed by City of Portland staff to make it easier for low-income people to find housing they can afford, in the neighborhoods they want to live in, with the features they prefer.
Bowman will market the product to other communities throughout the country so that they can benefit from the service Housing Connections provides without spending the time and resources to develop their own Web site.
"During the design phase it was clear that Housing Connections had a strong market potential nationally," said Commissioner Erik Sten, who oversees the Bureau of Housing and Development. "City staff built a terrific product that is on the cutting edge of using technology to address community problems. It is a win-win situation, as the city will realize revenues for its innovation and will help economically disadvantaged people find affordable housing throughout the United States."
